Merriwether woman dies as a result of injures from house fire

web posted November 21, 2008
MERRIWETHER – A Merriwether woman who was badly burned when her Martintown Road home caught fire Wednesday afternoon has died as a result of those injuries. Mrs. Mae Bunch, 87, passed away at the Burn Center at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta just before 5 pm Thursday. Many in the Merriwether area were saddened by the news as it spread across the community.

Mrs. Bunch was said to have died due to the smoke inhalation that quickly developed into pneumonia, a family friend said Thursday. She also suffered severe burns to her hands, arms, chest, and face as she tried to battle the fire when it initially started.

The cause of the tragic fire is believed to have been electrical in nature, according to early information, but no official cause could be obtained for this writing.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced sometime today.

Everyone at EdgefieldDaily.com expresses our heartfelt condolences to the Bunch family during this heartbreaking time. Her passing will be felt heavily across the Merriwether Community.

This is the second accidental death this year in the county, both occurring in Merriwether.
