  One injured in near head-on collision in Merriwether web posted November 28, 2007  MERRIWETHER – One
woman was injured in a
near head on collision on Martintown Road early Tuesday morning around
7:30. The crash stalled heavy morning traffic for over an hour as
deputies directed traffic through the scene which closed most of the
roadway during the busiest hour of the day.A Clarks Hill woman on her way to work was traveling east on Martintown Road in her Saturn coupe when she attempted to make a left turn onto Currytown Road and failed to see a westbound Saturn Vue. The two cars collided causing extensive damage to both vehicles. The Saturn coupe was knocked backwards and came to rest in the eastbound lane while the Saturn SUV ended up in the ditch of the westbound lane.  The driver of the
Saturn Vue was immobilized and transported to the MCG
Trauma Unit by ambulance complaining of back, leg, and neck pain. The
driver of the coupe refused treatment at the scene.The South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the crash and charged the driver of the coupe with failure to yield right of way. Deputies and Troopers were back out on Currytown Road later in the day when a woman driving a car struck an 18-wheeler log truck entering the roadway around 2:30 pm. There were no injuries in the crash and the car had to be towed from the scene.  ©
