One Injured in Roll-Over Crash

web posted December 6, 2013

MERRIWETHER The driver of a Chevrolet Impala was injured after loosing control of the car as he was westbound on Martintown Road Thursday afternoon just after 2 pm. Exactly how the crash took place was unknown at the scene. What was evident was the car struck a steep embankment at a sharp angle causing the car to roll over onto its hood. The driver was able to exit the vehicle on his own power.

Merriwether Fire and Rescue, EMS, and a Sheriff's Deputy arrived on the scene shortly after the call came in. The man was examined by EMS and he was transport to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The crash took place just after the driver passed Springhaven Drive. The car left the westbound lane and went up the better part of a steep 12 to 15-foot embankment before rolling over.

The wreckage blocked the entire westbound lane just before Merriwether schools were letting out for the day, causing more traffic congestion for the area. The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrived and took over the investigation into the crash. It is unknown if the wet roads may have been a contributing factor.

It took over an hour to remove the wrecked car, shutting down all traffic for a short period of time as the car was righted and towed from the scene.
