Mailbox vandals continue to plague Merriwether

web posted December 12, 2006

MERRIWETHER – Vandals continue to destroy mailboxes in the Merriwether area over the weekend, this time hitting at least nine locations on Country Club Hills Drive and Stevens Creek Drive. Over the past few months dozens more have been damaged by the vandals. The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the vandalism.

Most of the homeowners said they did not see or hear anything before discovering the damaged mailboxes on Saturday morning. One did report possibly seeing the vandals but the description was not released in the case.

In an earlier report from Woodlawn Road the vandals were said to be driving a red Chevrolet 4x4 Pickup truck with big tires, it is unknown if the same vandals were involved in the most recent cases.

In all over $300 in damages were reported in the most recent cases. The vandals are using a baseball bat or similar type weapon to damage the mailboxes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625. You do not need to provide your identity to give information.
