Wrecks keep deputies busy Monday afternoon in Merriwether

web posted December 19, 2006

MERRIWETHER – Edgefield County Deputies were busy in Merriwether Monday afternoon with two wrecks called in minutes apart. The first call came in just before 4pm with a two-car crash at the intersection on Murrah Road and Five Notch Road. A man driving a Mercury Grand Marquis said he looked both ways before crossing Five Notch only to be struck by an eastbound Ford pickup.

No injuries were reported in the crash and all parties awaited the Highway Patrol to work the crash.

Minutes later 911 received a call of an overturned vehicle on Old Martintown Road. A local teen was driving east on Martintown Road and veered off on Old Martintown Road when he lost control and flipped the small Ford flare side pickup truck he was driving. He was not injured in the crash.

The teen appeared to have entered the roadway and then lost control after the rear wheels lost traction about 120 yards onto the dirt road causing the truck to hit a small embankment rolling the truck at least once before coming to rest on its top.

Due to Old Martintown Road being a county maintained dirt road Sheriff’s Deputies worked the crash. Speed was considered a factor in the crash. The driver was said to be wearing a seat belt at the time preventing any serious injuries.
