Fox Creek Charter School vandalized yet again

web posted December 25, 2008

MERRIWETHER – Vandals have struck again at Fox Creek Charter High School leaving thousands of dollars worth of damage in their wake. The school has been vandalized several times this year. An Edgefield County Deputy discovered the damage during a routine property check Wednesday morning and Investigators were called to the scene.

Sheriff’s Investigator Phil Ireland said they were collecting evidence in the case but did not elaborate to the nature of the evidence. Investigator Ireland and Forensic Investigator Curtis Morris spent most of Christmas Eve day processing the scene which stretched across the entire campus.

The vandals broke into all but one of the approximately dozen portable buildings (left) ransacking the classrooms, breaking out light fixtures, computers, projectors, and almost every window in every building. The main building was also targeted with two classrooms having the large plate glass windows broken out and a weight bar was found lying in the broken glass. (below)

Investigator Ireland said he believes more than one person participated in the vandalism.

Due to the number of vandalisms at the school, the Sheriff’s Office has suggested the school install video surveillance cameras to aid in their investigations. According to sources, the Fox Creek Board of Directors rejected the recommendation.

No dollar amount was given in estimated damages though it is expected to be at least several thousands of dollars and could go much higher depending on the number of computers and other electronics damaged. As the vandals continue to strike the school, the amount of damage done is escalating. Just one of the recent vandalisms left over $8,000 in damages and each case seems to be very similar in the mode and items targeted.

Nothing has been reported stolen during the initial investigation.
