Merriwether Elementary evacuated again after threat web posted April 17, 2007 MERRIWETHER – The Merriwether Elementary School was evacuated again on Monday after school officials found a letter making a threat of an explosive device. The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office and the Merriwether Fire Department were summoned to the scene as the students were being evacuated from the building. This is the second threat made in a week at the school. Last week a 911 call named Merriwether Elementary and Middle Schools as targets. Sheriff’s Chief Investigator Randy Doran said the handwritten note was being processed for evidence. The letter was left by someone for school officials to find. It is believed, at this time, that the two threats may be related but Investigator Doran did not elaborate on the evidence collected. One report said there may have been a powder residue contained in the envelope, but that claim was not confirmed. A letter from the Edgefield County School District was being prepared to send home with students but was not faxed or e-mailed to EdgefieldDaily.com at the time of this writing. Edgefield County School Officials said Fox Creek Charter High School was not informed of the most recent threat on Monday but did not elaborate. In last week’s threats Fox Creek evacuated the buildings even though no threat was made to the school. The evacuation caused the Sheriff’s Office to expend unneeded manpower and resources to pacify Fox Creek School Officials. For
