Former student returns lost school funds web posted February 16, 2007 MERRIWETHER – A Merriwether Middle School teacher called the Sheriff’s Office to report losing money as he drove away with a bank bag on top of his car when he left Merriwether Middle School Wednesday afternoon on his way to make a deposit. The bank bag contained an estimated $1,200 in cash and checks. The deputy and others traveled the roads taken but was unable to locate the moneybag. MMS Principle Homes said the money was a school deposit and they were very worried. “We prayed over this all night,” she said. On Thursday morning a former MMS student, now a Strom Thurmond graduate, arrived at the school stating she found the moneybag and cut it open to find out whom the bag belonged to. Once she saw it was the Middle School she turned the contents over to school officials. “All the money was there,” Mrs. Holmes said. “We plan to do something for her.” EdgefieldDaily.com has requested the young woman’s identity so that we can recognize her honesty as well. Mrs. Holmes did not have the name of the former student with her at home when reached for comments for this article. A follow-up article will be placed Monday. For
