Man Stabbed in Large Fight in Murphy Village

web posted December 27, 2013 - 7:20 pm

MURPHY VILLAGE Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies were called to respond to a large group of people fighting in the parking lot of the Catholic Church on Edwards Drive Friday afternoon around 4 pm. As deputies raced to the scene dispatchers received another call of a man being stabbed in the lower back and was on the ground.

Deputies arrived minutes later and secured the scene for EMS and Merriwether First Responders could treat the injured man. The man was transported by ambulance to the Trauma Center in Augusta. His condition was not available at the scene.

Many of the people fled the scene and those that remained stated they did not see anything. A short time later another large fight broke out not far from the scene in Aiken County. It is unknown if anyone was injured in that altercation.

Edgefield County Sheriff's crime scene investigator was called to the scene to process it for evidence and take photographs. Evidence was collected, however, the type of evidence was not released.

At least two people were transported to the Sheriff's Office to be interviewed, though they were not in custody. At the current time the identity of the man with the knife has not been obtained and the knife was not recovered on the scene.

Investigators were on the scene until 6 pm.

The investigation is in its initial phase at this time.
