Aiken man dies after Russian Roulette incident

CLEARWATER – A 22-year-old Aiken man is dead after a shooting at the Advanced Auto Parts Store in Clearwater. Ricky Antonio Harris was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the MCG Trauma Unit is Augusta Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said.

According to information provided Mr. Harris was sitting in the passenger seat of a 1977 Chevrolet Caprice at the store around 5:30 Friday afternoon with two other occupants. Mr. Harris produced a .38 caliber revolver and emptied the live rounds out onto the floorboard. He is then said to have placed one live round back into the gun, spun the cylinder, and told the two occupants to “watch this”.

Mr. Harris placed the gun barrel below his chin and pulled the trigger and the gun discharged, shooting him in the head.

Harris was transported to the MCG Trauma Unit but all efforts to save him failed.

An autopsy conducted Saturday revealed Mr. Harris died from injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case is to be ruled a suicide after the investigation is complete Mr. Carlton said. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating the shooting Results of a toxicology test is pending.
