Father Shot, Wife Arrested for Murder

web posted April 9, 2014

NORTH AUGUSTA  A North Augusta man is dead and his wife, 20-year-old Terry Cook, has been charged with his murder. 21-year-old Dakota Cook suffered a single gunshot to the head and later died at the Trauma Center in Augusta from his injury. Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said the shooting was the result of an ongoing "domestic" situation.

911 Dispatchers received a call around 10:30 am Tuesday reporting a shooting at the North Augusta Gardens Apartments. When they arrived they found Cook on the floor, his wife and four children, ages 4 months, 1, 3 and 4 years of age inside the home.

Mrs. Cook was taken into custody and the four small children were later turned over to the custody of their grandparents.

An autopsy is scheduled for today. The North Augusta Public Safety, SLED and the Aiken County Coroner's Office is investigating, Carlton said in a release.
