Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said 35-year-old Gregory A. Maree was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.

The crash occurred just past East Buena Vista Road on US Highway 1 in North Augusta Mr. Maree was traveling south toward Augusta, Ga. on Highway 1 when he left the roadway in a curve and struck the sidewalk near the Cheap Cigarettes store. Mr. Maree’s car then struck two abandoned above ground gas tanks, which were empty at the time.

The collision with the gas tanks caused the vehicle Marlee was driving to catch fire. Coroner Carlton said he was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple body traumas. Mr. Maree was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
