North Augusta man’s death ruled as homicide

web posted September 24, 2008
NORTH AUGUSTA – North Augusta Police are investigating the murder of 50-year-old David P. Hett who was discovered dead at his Buena Vista Avenue home by a friend around 7:30 pm Monday evening. An autopsy conducted Tuesday confirmed the death was a homicide Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Tuesday.

“Mr. Hett's autopsy results revealed that he died from a cerebral contusion, caused by a depressed skull fracture that was caused by blunt force trauma incurred during a beating. Mr. Hett also had several defensive wounds,” Coroner Carlton said.

The North Augusta Public Safety, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, SLED and the Coroner’s Office are investigating the murder. Mr. Hett was said to have been deceased for “several days” prior to his body being discovered.
