isloated problems with county computers and EdgefieldDaily.com
web posted March 1, 2006 WEBNEWS – A strange anomaly occurred on Tuesday with computer users in the Edgefield County Court House complex trying to access EdgefieldDaily.com. On Tuesday we ran an editorial on the excessive salary paid to Edgefield County Administrator Wayne Adams. The strange thing is the page was not accessible from computers in the Court House offices. Not one or two computers, all of them. When we were made aware of the situation we visited several offices to see if the reports we were receiving were accurate and they were. By placing the actual page address into the computers browsers we were able to view the page. However, by following the links on EdgefieldDaily.com, the Opinions page was an older page, not the updated one. The problem was, again, isolated to computers operated by the county. This is not the first time problems with county computers have arisen in relation to EdgefieldDaily.com. In July of 2005, Administrator Adams blocked all access to EdgefieldDaily.com from county computers. The County Council summarily had the block lifted days later avoiding a legal challenge by EdgefieldDaily.com. Recently we were made aware of problems with readers saying certain stories and links will not appear on computers located in the Edgefield County Court House complex but could be accessed from home computers. Tuesday’s problems were identical in the way the past problems presented themselves. The Editor called County Council Chairman Monroe Kneece about the problem and Mr. Kneece claims Mr. Adams said the pages were not blocked. That is true; the pages are not “blocked”. Instead they are showing older pages, not current ones, to make it seem the pages have not been updated to reflect the current content. Mr. Kneece stated Mr. Adams emphatically denies any knowledge of the pages not being available to county government employees in the Courthouse complex. EdgefieldDaily.com is not accusing Mr. Adams of directing the problems that occurred. It must be a technical issue that just occurs from time to time. If the county cannot resolve the issue EdgefieldDaily.com will be happy to loan our IT Staff to come in and fix the problem once and for all for free. Of course, we would need access to the entire system and every single computer. It is curious, however, that the problems occur at times that coincide with the publication of articles or pages that relate to Mr. Adams or the county government. We are sure this is just a coincidence. The reported problem did not exist in the Admistrator's Office Clerk to Council Barbara Stark stated. For
