Edgefield Daily.com announces upgrades to website

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted June 6, 2005

Due to the tremendous amount of interest in Edgefield Daily.com’s website, upgrades are being considered and negotiated for a friendlier site and up to date Webcasts for local and regional news including updated video and audio feeds to users of Edgefield Daily.com.

“We hope to provide access to information in the county that has not been seen before,” Edgefield Daily.com’s webmaster “CJ” Pope said. “We are going to make the upgrades now so that we will not have to shut down later to implement the software,” he said saying that the move would require the entire site to be backed up on a new server and then reloaded., “It could take as long as a week but we hope to do it in four or five days using the weekend as a buffer.”

Edgefield Daily.com said this move would allow users to view a “newscast” through Windows Media Player or other such viewers, “It would be a run down of local events, weather, and other news rotations,” Pope said.

The upgrades to the site are scheduled for June 17 through June 22. Edgefield Daily.com will not be able to upload updates during the upgrade period and readers will be directed to the last updated page until the improvements are complete. “We hope that our readers will excuse this interruption in our daily updates, in the long run we think they will be well pleased,” said Edgefield Daily.com owner Roy Blackwell. “There will be some changes to the general layout of the page, and the webcast will be added after testing is completed which should not take longer than the month of June,” he said.

“Basically we are taking Edgefield County into the 21st century, a newscast on the web on demand for the county,” Blackwell said. Webmaster Pope said the upgrades were necessary to provide the extra bandwidth that was required to handle the new programming, “Right now we have about 10 gigs (gigabytes) on a transfer rate at any given time, but with the new webcast we will need at least 20 gigs of transfer,” to handle the traffic he said.

“Think of it as the internet, TV, and radio all rolled into one,” Pope said, “”we’re really excited about this.”
