Bloggers
caught counterfeiting story from EdgefieldDaily.com
web
posted September 17, 2007
WEBNEWS – A group of bloggers calling
themselves The Clay Pit Crew may soon find themselves in more than just
a little hot water after stealing material from EdgefieldDaily.com,
changing the content of a story, and publishing it as if it was
reported
on EdgefieldDaily.com. Including a picture of the faked story on our
website. The bloggers have been attacking several candidates in the
District 25 Senate race for some time. They are free to do so, however,
trying to pass off inaccurate, and possibly libelous, material and
making
readers believe it is coming from EdgefieldDaily.com is illegal.
The story reported on EdgefieldDaily.com on September 12 is titled “Merriwether neighborhood
site of recent reported frauds,” which
recounts two cases of unrelated frauds on the 400 block of Big Oak
Drive.
The bloggers took that story and changed the content to report senate
candidate Bill Hixon placed unwanted campaign signs in a neighbor’s
yard and other fictitious information relating to Mr. Hixon and his
mother under the guise of making the reader believe we reported the
false story. By the title of the story the bloggers were trying to
insinuate Mr. Hixon was involved in a fraud.
We consider the material posted to be libelous and believe action
should be pursued by Mr. Hixon. Calls to Mr. Hixon were not returned on
Sunday night to advise him of the recent discovery. EdgefieldDaily.com
has printed copies of the false information and saved copies on our
server (Click here to view the faked story)
and will make those available to Mr. Hixon. We will not link to
the web log.
There are no phone numbers or contact information listed on the web
log. Emails have been sent to the web log informing them to cease
and desist any and all use of any and all material from
EdgefieldDaily.com immediately. A recent visit to their blog showed the
material had been removed.
A post on the web log at 11 pm stated:
Clay Pit Crew said...
The KK was contacted by the editor of the Edgefield Daily with the
request to remove all of their links and content from the KK. We have
done so. We enjoy their reporting and hope our readers continue to
patronize them.
