Bill
Hixon attacks Shane Massey's "Clean campaign" offer
web
posted September 21, 2007
WEBNEWS – Republican District 25 Senate
run-off candidate Bill Hixon has reportedly responded to a letter from
front runner Shane Massey who asked Mr. Hixon to sign on to an
agreement to run a clean campaign over the next two weeks.
According to
a SCHotLine Press Release, Mr. Hixon accused Mr. Massey of being the
one associated with running false attack ads against him. In his open
letter to Mr. Massey, Mr. Hixon is reported to have said, “Will you
promise the voters that all negative attacks against Bill Hixon will
cease? Will you instruct those PACs and websites which are
supporting you to end their negative attacks on your behalf?” However,
along with the letter came an attack on
EdgefieldDaily.com.
EdgefieldDaily.com received an email notification of the letter with
the subject line “Are you in the tank or what you little pipsqueak
redneck.. News? Journalist? Laughable. You are white trash plain and
simple.” It came from the email address theaikenhornet@gmail.com -
EdgefieldDaily.com has traced the internet Service Provider (ISP) of
the sender and may reveal their identity in an upcoming report. Feel
free to send him an email with your thoughts on the matter. Please copy
us in on your email so some can be listed in the Wandering Minds.
A post entered on the
website (which has been altered after our first
saving the original post) reads in part, “The editor of the
www.edgefielddaily.com told me that he “has been working with” and “in
contact with” SCRG a couple of times a week for the past two months.”
The poster, no doubt a Hixon supporter, is a liar.
EdgefieldDaily.com reported the attack ad
against Mr. Hixon and never
knew the group existed until receiving the mailer quoting our factual
Nov. 2006 report on Mr. Hixon’s property being ridiculously under
assessed while his neighbor’s property values increased dramatically.
We immediately notified Mr. Hixon of the attack ad.
EdgefieldDaily.com also shut down a false
story, just before the
election, that claimed EdgefieldDaily.com reported Mr. Hixon was
associated with a fraud in the Merriwether community by another website
and forced the website to remove the faked story. If EdgefieldDaily.com
was biased we could have waited to act until after the election and let
the false story spread, thereby possibly affecting the election
results. A few hundred votes would have placed Mr. Hixon out of the
run-off.
Mr. Hixon also attacked EdgefieldDaily.com’s report in a mailer to
voters claiming our report on his property values was “false” and
confirmed the mailer referred to our report. We then produced the
actual information provided by the Edgefield County Tax Assessor’s
Office to support our story. It has never been refuted or challenged by
Mr. Hixon since.
After our report of Mr. Hixon’s attack on EdgefieldDaily.com, signs in
the Merriwether area near Mr. Hixon’s home reading “Read
EdgefieldDaily.com” were vandalized with someone taking a red marker
scratching out the “Read” and replacing it with the expletive “F- - K”
This upset many Merriwether parents, as the signs were located on the
main avenue to the Merriwether Middle and Elementary Schools.
EdgefieldDaily.com removed the offending signs after being notified by
parents of the children who saw the graffiti.
Mr. Hixon has also associated our reports with the Shane Massey
campaign due to Mr. Massey advertising on EdgefieldDaily.com. The ad
placed on our website was sought by a member of the voting public who
was directed to pay for the ad through Mr. Massey’s campaign for legal
purposes. We were never contact by the Massey campaign for the purpose
of a political ad.
EdgefieldDaily.com has never refused political ads from any candidate
in any election cycle and has published ads from opposing candidates at
the same time. We do not endorse candidates for elective office and
will only respond if a candidate attacks, refers, or mentions
EdgefieldDaily.com inaccurately.
