An open letter from the Editor

web posted December 21, 2006

WEBNEWS – As Editor of EdgefieldDaily.com I would like to take this opportunity to thank our readers for a record-breaking year. Being Edgefield County’s number one web based local news source and the only source for daily local news EdgefieldDaily.com will continue to bring you “Edgefield County as it happens” in 2007. Founded in March of 2005 it was a dream to reach 1,000,000 hits and over 1,000 readers. That was surpassed within a few months and in 2006 it has now grown to over 7,300 unique visitors last month and almost 7,000,000 hits with thousands of pages read daily. And our growth continues.

The readers of EdgefieldDaily.com deserve all the credit since we have never advertised with any media outlet. From the beginning it was the intent to let the readers decide if EdgefieldDaily.com would succeed and relied on readers to refer other readers. Your response has been humbling.

Every week I get e-mails from new readers that say a co-worker, friend, neighbor, family member, or e-mail referred them to the web site and how much they appreciate it being made available for free.

The reason EdgefieldDaily.com is free to our readers is due to our advertisers; Tidwell Jewelers, Johnston Cash Advance, Philippi Baptist Church, Crouch Hardware, Micro Solutions, Edgefield Rod and Gun, JAM Straight Customs, and the number one page Wandering Minds sponsor Scott Quarles. Please support our advertisers for providing EdgefieldDaily.com to you at no charge or registration.

There are several changes planned for 2007 that will be phased in over the next six weeks. Some changes will be unnoticed and others will be obvious. Among the changes will be some sections being moved to the archives as additional updates will not be made to the sections. Area Gas Prices will no longer be featured as prices have stabilized. The Featured Dining Section will also be removed and archived.

An addition to EdgefieldDaily.com is political commentary by published author and retired journalist Carl Langley which will appear weekly and possibly bi-weekly in the near future. It will be listed and archived in the Featured Columns listings along with Dr. Skip Myers and the Editor’s columns.

In late January the News Alerts will return. When EdgefieldDaily.com had two of the main computer systems crash simultaneously the addresses for the Alerts recipients were lost. Honoring our promise not to store online, release, or sell e-mail addresses they were stored on a local computer and lost at the time of the incident. An announcement will be made to sign up for the breaking alerts to be sent to you via e-mail when it is made available.

In 2007 EdgefieldDaily.com intends to reach half of the Edgefield County residents through the internet news media and will continue to strive to provide the most accurate, up-to-date, and breaking local news available to the area. We will continue to provide the most in depth coverage of local government bodies and meetings to keep taxpayers advised of their elected leader’s actions and votes.

In closing let me again thank the readers of EdgfieldDaily.com for making 2005 and 2006 such a success and setting, and continuing to set, records for readership. Thank you for your loyal support and word of mouth advertising. EdgefieldDaily.com is number one in daily local news because of you. We look forward to serving you in 2007.

May God bless you in the coming year and I hope your family enjoys celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ this coming Monday. Merry Christmas.
