Death attributed to truck crash

web posted August 4, 2006

NORTH SIDE – A North Side man died as a result of injuries he received in an early morning crash Thursday. Robert Warren, 58, of the 300 block of Moores Drive was pronounced dead at 9:30 am according to Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett.

Reports indicate Mr. Warren was driving south on Walker Road around 8:00 am when he veered off the left side of the road for some 85 yards striking several trees before striking one larger tree head on. After the crash, Mr. Warren was reported to have crawled to the road where a neighbor found him and took him to his brother’s house on Moores Drive.

Family members waited until just after 9:30 am to call for EMS when Mr. Warren went unconscious. Coroner Burnett said when EMS arrived on the scene Mr. Warren was found deceased. His body was transported to the Edgefield County Hospital. It was not until then that officials knew of the crash.

Edgefield County Deputies then began searching Moores Drive and Walker Road for the crash site. The location of the crash was found around 10:30 am on Walker Road. The scene was turned over to the South Carolina Highway Patrol for investigation since it involved a fatality.

Coroner Burnett said the death was in relation to the crash, but he could not confirm the actual cause of death until the results of the autopsy in Newberry had been completed. Those results should be available Friday, he said
