Thieves Target Audio Equipment in Church Burglaries

web posted August 15, 2014

NORTHSIDE   The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office released more information Thursday on the burglaries that took place at Pine Grove and Pleasant Lane Churches that were discovered Wednesday. The churches, located a short distance from each other in a very rural section of the county, saw similar electronic equipment taken from both locations. It is also likely the two burglaries are connected.

Reported taken from the Pleasant Lane Baptist Church were a Roland Bass amp with a 15-inch speaker and two Peavey PR12 speaker cabinets (left) valued at a total of $1,100. Nothing else was reported stolen from the church. Entry was gained by prying open a door, causing around $200 in damage.

According to a report filed by the investigator, the burglars targeted similar equipment from the Pine Grove Pentecostal Church. After gaining entry by kicking in a side door, the thieves stole a Peavey Control system valued at $600 along with a microphone and microphone cord valued at $200. Damage to the door was estimated at $200.

The equipment stolen is very popular with DJ's when performing at parties, gatherings, or providing sound equipment for public speaking events. The capabilities of the equipment would not be suitable for a band unless it was a small group playing in a small venue, said a former band member who is familiar with the type of equipment stolen.

The cases are currently under active investigation. No serial numbers were made available with the release of official reports on Thursday. Pictured above is a Peavey PR12 speaker cabinet
