Ralph Edward Deason, Sr.

MCCORMICK – Ralph Edward Deason, Sr., 88, resident of 165 Greenfield Road and Forest View Manor, widower of Lois Edwards Deason, died August 13, 2010 at Hospice House in Greenwood. Born in McCormick County, May 18, 1922, he was a son of the late John Bert and Pearl Weeks Deason. He was a US Army  Veteran of WW II where he served in the Old Hickory 30th Division, 117th Infantry. He served in five major battles in the European Theatre. Mr. Deason was a retired farmer and cattleman. A lifelong member of Republican United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the J.B. Walker Sunday School Class and the Republican United Methodist Church Men's Club. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 19, the VFW, the McCormick Chapter of the SC Cattleman's Association and was a charter member of the Sandy Branch Fire Department. Surviving are a daughter, Ginnie and husband Jimmy Smith of McCormick; three sons, Ralph Edward Deason, Jr., Johnny and wife Lucinda Deason and Timmy and wife Debbie Deason, all of McCormick; four sisters, Lib West and Grace and husband Wallace Wright, all of McCormick and Jean Quarles of Edgefield and Dot and husband Billy Scott of Fort Mill; five grandchildren, Kirk and wife Michelle Smith, Jacob and Kaylee Deason, Jade and Jordyn Deason; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Smith. Mr. Deason was predeceased by brothers, J.C. and Ronnie Deason, a sister, Eunice Deason and a granddaughter, Kariana Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 3PM Sunday at Republican United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip Bostrom and Rev. Don Alexander officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow in the McCormick City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kirk Smith, Jacob Deason, Wallace Wright, Mickey Goff, Glenn Wright and Roy Schumpert. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood and will be placed in the church at 2PM Sunday. The family is at the home of Ginnie and Jimmy Smith, 610 Virginia Street.
