JOHNSTON – Services for Thelma McElmurray
Crouch, 96, will be held Friday, April 24, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the
Johnston United Methodist Church. Visitation will be in the church
Social Hall from 1:30- 2:30 prior to the service at 3p.m. Burial will
follow in Mt. of Olives Cemetery. The family will be at 150 Satcher
Road in Lexington. Mrs. Crouch died on April 20, 2009 at the home of
her daughter in Lexington. She was born on August 9, 1912 and was the
daughter of Grover Cleveland and Virginia Farmer McElmurray. A graduate
of Winthrop College in 1933, she also attended graduate school at Case
Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio and Florida State University in
Tallahassee, FL. She worked as a County Director and District Director
for the Department of Social Services and retired after 44 years. She
continued working as a consultant for the nursing facilities until her
late seventies. Mrs. Crouch was a longtime and active member of
Johnston United Methodist Church where she served in numerous
capacities. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
and cherished her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved
husband, Robert Arial Crouch. She is survived by daughters: Cynthia C.
Satcher and Ginny C. Kurtz, both of Lexington; grandchildren: Ben
Satcher, Jr., Lexington, Sissy Bynum, Columbia, Douglas Kurtz (Donna),
Seattle, WA., Ryan Kurtz (Patrizie), Atlanta, GA and Robert Satcher
(Kelly) Columbia, and 16 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her
nephews: Walter Trammell, Mike Crouch, and John Timmerman, along with
Ben Satcher, Sr., Roy Kirkland, Rhett Kirkland, Smith Holmes and David
Satcher. Her family would like to thank her care giver, Virginia
Hunter, her physician, Dr. Brent Powers and Winyah Hospice for their
assistance and support. Memorials may be made to Johnston United
Methodist Church, P.O. Box 186, Johnston, SC 29832 Bland Funeral Home,
Johnston, is assisting the family with arrangements.
