Robert Lee Dowdle Jr.

MERRIWETHER – Funeral services for Mr. Robert Lee Dowdle, Jr., 80, of Woodlawn Road, Clarks Hills, SC, who entered into rest March 10, 2007, will be conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock from Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church. Dr. Phillip Burden and Chaplain George A. Holcombe, Jr. officiating. Interment in Pineview Memorial Gardens with Veterans Honors. Mr. Dowdle was a lifelong resident of the North Augusta area. He was retired from Colonial Baking Company with 42 years of service, a US Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. Mr. Dowdle was a Fire Commissioner for Merriwether Fire Department, served on the Transportation Committee for Merriwether District and was a member of Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Cleveland Dowdle; three daughters, Ginger Johnson, North Augusta, Lynn Hadden, Edgefield and Andrea Key, Augusta; two sisters, Cordelia Medlock and Alice Thompson, both of North Augusta; three grandchildren, Sharon Nunnamaker, Brian Johnson and Dan Key; three great-grandchildren, Tripp Nunnamaker, Brandon Johnson and Michael Stange. Pallbearers will be Chuck Thompson, Robert Thompson, Gene Medlock, Andy Bunch, Willis Hill and Bobby Lee McKie. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Merriweather Fire Department. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 8. Memorials may be made to Regency Hospice, 2919 Professional Parkway, Suite A, Augusta, Georgia 30907-6526 or Merriwether Fire Department, 1829 Martintown Road, North Augusta, SC 29860. Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home of North Augusta in charge of arrangements, (803-278-1181).
