Christine Ouzts Hammond

JOHNSTON – Christine Ouzts Hammond, 96, of
2720 Country Club Road, formerly of Greenwood and Johnston, widow of
Charles Frank Hammond, Sr. died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Park
Place Assisted Living.
Born in the Kirksey Community of Greenwood County, May 19, 1915, she
was a daughter of the late Walter E. and Sophie Mae Harris Ouzts.
A 1933 graduate of Greenwood High School, Mrs. Hammond was also a
graduate of Waldrop Beauty School. She and her husband formerly
owned Johnston Drug Store in Johnston, SC for many years.
A member of Woodfields Baptist Church in Greenwood, she was also a
member of the TEL Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by a son, Charles Frank Hammond, Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Spiess and husband, Eugene of
Spartanburg and Phyllis Poyner and husband, Brandon Lee Poyner, Sr. of
Columbia; son, John E. Hammond and wife Brenda of Raleigh, NC;
grandchildren, G. Scott Harling and wife, Tracy, Kristin Harling,
Christine Wilson and husband, Eric, Ryan Spiess, Brandon Lee Poyner,
Jr. and wife Michele, Jennifer McQueeney and husband, Billy, Heather
Shuler and husband, Paul, Courtney Clarke, Kenny Hammond, Ashley
Palladino and husband, Andrew and Jason Hammond; and ten
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM from the Blyth
Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bob Miller officiating. Burial will
follow at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Garden in Johnston.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Poyner, Jr., Jason Hammond, Scott Harling,
Tommy Eddie, Frank Eddie and David Eddie.
Honorary escort will be Paul Shuler, Billy McQueeney, Ryan Spiess,
AndrewPalladino and Eric Wilson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00
AM until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Children
and Family Healthcare Center College of Nursing at the University of
South Carolina, 1601 Greene Street Columbia, SC 29208 or to Woodfields
Baptist Church, 1715 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC 29646.
