EDGEFIELD – Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday October 22, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edgefield for Frances Glover Mitchell Holmes. Father Noel Tria will officiate and pall bearers will be Bettis Rainsford, Albert Rainsford, Ben Rainsford, Carl Brown, Lewis Holmes III, and Roger Timpson. On October 19th the time had come for Mrs. Holmes, who had lived a good life to enter upon a more complete phase of life. Born April 19, 1923 in Edgefield, SC she was the daughter of the late Dr. Hugh Carl Mitchell and Mrs. Emily Burt Tompkins Mitchell, and was the foster daughter of Miss Marjorie Ann "Polly" Tompkins. She was married to the late Charles Picket Holmes of Trenton, a World War II veteran and peach farmer. She was a loving and devoted aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holmes was a faithful member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception in Edgefield and was born in the same ancestral home place that she spent her last 2 years of her life. She left an indelible imprint on all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Holmes was predeceased by a beloved sister Marjorie Tompkins Mitchell and is survived by her older sister Emmie Dozier Mitchell Bland. She is also survived by her nephews Frank Stanford Bland III, Hugh Mitchell Bland Sr., and Julian Holmes, her nieces Emily Bland Phail and Marjorie Bland Fulcher. She had 12 great nieces and nephews, Mary Lynn Bland Robles, Frank Stanford Bland IV, Stephanie Bland Shmidt, Charles Frederick Bland, Emmie Yendle Bland, Harry Tompkins Bland, Robert Dale Fulcher, Katelyn Marie Fulcher, Daniel Marshall Phail, Frank Bland Phail, Frances Caroline Bland and Hugh Mitchell Bland Jr.. Frances is also survived by four great great nephews Patrick, Charlie and Cesar Robles and Christian Carl Haskins and one great great niece Paisley Fulcher. The family will have visitation at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Wednesday 10/21/09. In lieu of flowers donations and memorials can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.  For you shall go out in joy, and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands - Isaiah 55:12.
