Curtis Howard Johnson

EDGEFIELD – Ret. S.C. National Guard : Mr. Curtis Howard Johnson, 86, of Scott Ferry Rd., husband of Catherine Quarles Johnson, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at his residence. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, July 20, 2008 at 2 P.M. at Antioch Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. Mr. Johnson was born in Edgefield County. Mr. Johnson was the oldest member of Antioch Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for 60 years. He was a WW II Army Veteran and was Retired from the S.C. National Guard in 1981 as Chief Warrant Officer. He was a member of the American Legion, Woodman of the World, and was a Master Mason. Survivors include his wife; 2 Sons, Gary Johnson, Newberry, Larry (Joan) Johnson, Cayce; 1 Sister, Louise J. Gibson, Edgefield; 5 Grandchildren, Craig, Keith, Ben, Brian, and Michele; and 11 Great-Grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1843 Hwy 23 West Edgefield, S.C. 29824 or to the Hezzie Griffis Post # 30, c/o Veteran Affairs Office, P.O. Box 236 Edgefield, S.C. 29824. The family is at the home and will receive friends Saturday from 3 to 5 P.M. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
