U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Jamie Lee Korrek

GREENWOOD – U.S. Air Force Airman 1st
Class Jamie
Lee Korrek, 24, assigned to Spangdahlem, Germany, went to be with the
Lord Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Spangdahlem Air Force Base Hospital
after a recent illness.
Born in Greenwood, May 5, 1986, he was a son of Micheal Korrek and
Sherri Davis Whatley. Jamie graduated with honors from Ninety Six
High School in 2004. He attended Piedmont Technical College where
he was studying Electronics Engineering and worked at Grede Foundry in
Greenwood before enlisting in the US Air Force. He served in
Texas at Lackland Air Force Base as well as Sheppard’s Air Force Base,
Texas where he studied Electronic Engineering and graduated at the top
of his class. He was then deployed to Spangdahlem, Germany
where he served from 2009 until his death. Jamie was a member of
First Damascus Baptist Church, Greenwood. He served his country
honorably and faithfully.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Greenwood and his father of
Edgefield are a step-father, Tom Whatley of Greenwood; brother, Chris
Korrek of N. Carolina; paternal grandparents, Tom and Mary Korrek of
Edgefield; maternal step-grandmother, Mary Whatley of Greenwood and the
late maternal step-grandfather, Bill Whatley; maternal grandmother, Pat
G. Goldman of Greenwood and the late maternal grandfather, A.D. Davis;
aunts and uncles, Kenneth and Nora Korrek of Edgefield; Neil and Irene
Whatley of Greenwood, Junior and Janet Medley of North Carolina,
Richard and Iris Davis of Greenwood and a special uncle, Earl Goff of
Greenwood; cousins, Jamey Blackledge, USAF and Christina Davis of
Greenwood ; niece, Harley Korrek. He was predeceased by a cousin,
Zeb Blackledge and Uncle Bo and Aunt Cindy Tolbert.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday from the Blyth
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Carter officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Rehoboth United Methodist
Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the military honor guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8
Saturday evening.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the
Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, SC 29646.
