Charles T. (Charlie) Mathis

EDGEFIELD – Mr. Charles T. (Charlie)
Mathis, 94, husband of the late Mattie Parks Mathis died Sunday May 10,
2009.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday May 12 at 11 A.M. at Edgefield
First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery with
Military Honors.
Mr. Mathis was a native of Edgefield County, a WWII veteran and a
member of the American Legion for 60 years. He was a retired owner of
Parks and Mathis furniture store. He served 27 years on the
Edgefield City Council and was a former deacon of Peace Haven Baptist
Church and a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. He served
on the Strom Thurmond Statue committee and he was Grand Marshall of 2
Christmas Parades, a plaque was placed on the Town Square for his
service to the Town and Community, he was also famous for his day
lilies that he donated to the Town Square. He was also the president of
the Huddle House Coffee Club.
Survivors include 2 daughters; Charlene (Danny) Rickerson, Martinez,
GA., Kay (Ken) Bodine, Pendleton, SC.; one brother Lee (Catherine)
Mathis, Edgefield,
SC.; 2 sisters, Dorothy Rummel and Rose Morgan both of Durham,
NC.; 4 grandchildren Dana and Chad Rickerson and Ashley and Matt
Bodine.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion Hezzie Griffis Post 30,
P.O. Box 236 Edgefield, S.C. 29824.
The Family is at the home and will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8
P.M. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
