JOHNSTON – Funeral services for Lila Dowd
Powell, 96, will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church at 1
o'clock on Monday, June 7, 2010 with burial to follow in the church
cemetery. She went to be with her Heavenly Father June 4, 2010. The
family is at the home of Rick and Emily Powell and will receive friends
after the service in the church social hall. Bland Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements. Lila was born in Little Mountain, SC, a
daughter of the late James Milton and Maggie Shealy Dowd. She was
married to the late Clarence F. Powell. She is survived by two sons: C.
F. (Rick) and wife Emily of Johnston; Donald and wife Jackie of
Rockville, VA.; two daughters: Jane Mims of Johnston and Dianne Hare
and husband Bob of Edgefield; ten grandchildren and twenty great
grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, one daughter, Joyce
Ophelia, six brothers and two sisters. Lila walked in faith with her
Lord and followed His example by loving and serving others through her
church and in her community. She loved her children and grandchildren,
cherished her friends, and claimed her great grandchildren to be
special blessings of a long life. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem
United Methodist Church c/o Tim Berry, 705 Edisto Street, Johnston, SC
29832.
