Leila 'Griff' Wilkerson

WEST COLUMBIA – Leila 'Griff' Wilkerson
beloved Mother, Sister, and Grandmother passed away on Thursday,
November 10, 2011.
Born in Johnston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Nathaniel
Smith and Addie Maria Blocker Smith. Griff graduated from Johnston High
School and attended Winthrop University. She retired from Lexington
School District II, as a Media Specialist in 1996. She was a member of
Platt Springs Methodist Church. She was a Grandmother extraordinaire
and enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren's many activities.
Griff is survived by her sons, Avery Wilkerson and wife Kim of Cayce,
Jacob Wilkerson and wife, Cindy of Springdale; grandchildren, Avery
Bland Wilkerson, III and wife Katie, Allen Nathaniel Wilkerson, Anna
Irene Wilkerson and Addie Caroline Wilkerson; great grandson, Avery
Bland Wilkerson, IV; sisters, Jackie Smith Wansley of Mt. Pleasant and
Johnsie Smith (Walt Warren) of Surf City, NC; brother, Jacob 'Peter'
Smith of Augusta, GA; sister-in-law, Ceile Kempson (Voigt). She was
predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 54 years, A.B.
Wilkerson, Sr.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 13, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Thompson
Funeral Home of Lexington on Highway #1. Services will be held at 11
a.m. Monday, November 14, 2011, at Platt Springs United Methodist
Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Becky Shirley; interment will
follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be
Jacob Smith, Chip Owen, Ronnie Carter, Mark Wansley, Steve Carter, Mike
Casey and John Blocker. Memorials may be made to Platt Springs United
Methodist Church, 3215 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
