Outdoors Forks Area Trail System, better known as FATS Grand Opening Set web posted March 10, 2006 Forks Area Trail System, better known as FATS was the focus of my attention on Wednesday afternoon. Bill Victor who designed and is overseer of the building of the FATS trail offered me an advance ride of the newly constructed trail off of Woodlawn Road in Edgefield County. The trails first completed section will have its Grand Opening on March 25 at 4pm. The trail itself could possibly one of the best mountain bike trails in the state and may even be counted as one of the southeast best. Rolling hills throughout the trail offer a wide variety of action for the beginner to the advanced rider. As I sat atop a small ridge I watched as Bill Victor quickly disappeared in the forest all I could hear was his loud screams of joy as he rode his new creation. For me that was my cue to take on the trail. As I began to ride I was amazed at how quickly the trail went by, riding up and down around turns literally sideways at times, and jumps will be no problem for the advanced mountain biker on this trail. It offers some of the biggest jumping capabilities I’ve seen on the many trails I’ve visited. If you’re not into jumping, not a problem, just push down on the handlebars, as you come to the top, you will not go airborne. Sadly, we only rode a small section of this trail but it was easy to see the section we rode only told a small story of all the FATS trail has to offer. For me this is great for Edgefield County! This trail will provide many hours of free recreation for locals as well bringing in many riders from all across the state and neighboring states as well. Seeing the National Forest up close like this only makes us all appreciate it all the more. I encourage you to come to the Grand Opening on Saturday March 25. Ride the trail, and be sure to thank all involved for bringing this treasure for all to enjoy. Over 1500 volunteer hours will given freely by local mountain bike clubs and grants totaling over $100,000 provided by various entities were made available to create this trail. For
