Jesus Is Completely Better Than Santa

By Pastor Phillip Howle

web posted December 21, 2011

RELIGION – The past few weeks I’ve been writing and preaching on how we mess up Christmas when we treat it like our birthday and fail to honor Christ on His. Well, one of the biggest competitors to a Christ centered Christmas is the portly and jolly man in red named Santa Claus. Now, I know hating on Santa is on par with declaring the intrinsic evilness of hummingbirds. This will not win me any fans at Christmas, but we must simply let the facts speak for themselves. This is not original with me, although I have made some modifications.

•    Santa lives at the North Pole….    JESUS is everywhere.
•    Santa rides in a sleigh….  JESUS walks on the water.
•    Santa comes but once a year….   JESUS is an ever present help.
•    Santa fills your stockings with goodies….    JESUS supplies all your needs.
•    Santa comes down your chimney uninvited….    JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart when invited.
•    You have to wait in line to see Santa….   JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
•    Santa lets you sit on his lap….JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
•    Santa doesn’t know your name, all he can say is “Hi little boy or girl, what’s your name?” JESUS knew our name before we were born.  Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too.  He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
•    Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly….    JESUS has a heart full of love.
•    All Santa can offer is HO HO HO….  JESUS offers health, help and hope.
•    Santa says “You better not cry”….    JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.”
•    Santa’s little helpers make toys….    JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, and repairs broken homes.
•    Santa may make you chuckle but….JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
•    While Santa puts gifts under your tree…. JESUS became our gift and died on a tree…the cross.
•    Santa gives gifts we enjoy and then forget… But JESUS is the gift we all need more than anything else and that lasts for eternity.

Please don’t forget to honor Christ this Christmas. Don’t be afraid to start new traditions together. Why not head out to a Christmas Eve service. If you live in town, why not head over to First Baptist Church Edgefield at 6:00pm Christmas Eve. Or if you live in Merriweather, why not head over to Big Stevens Creek Baptist at 6:00pm. Take time and read the Christmas Story from Luke 2 together as a family and pray together. Or go around and ask each member of your family what gift they can give to Jesus in the upcoming year.

Praying you all have a wonderful Jesus filled Christmas, Pastor Phillip

PS. Antioch will only be having one Sunday morning worship service at 10am. Please bring the whole family out as we worship the new born King.
