The Edgefield County WalkAmerica March of Dimes fundraiser Saturday April 8, 2006

web posted March 29, 2006

EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield County WalkAmerica March of Dimes fundraiser will be held Saturday April 8, 2006, “Rain of shine”. WalkAmerica is the March of Dimes’ largest fundraiser and is the oldest and most successful walking event in the country.

Premature birth is a bigger problem than many might think. More than 490,000 babies are born prematurely in the U.S. each year, many so small that their lives hang in the balance. Nearly half the cases of premature birth happen for unknown reasons. When you participate in WalkAmerica, you are helping the March of Dimes raise money to fund research and programs to find the causes of prematurity. WalkAmerica is a Fun 6.2 mile walk to celebrate the participants’ efforts to save babies lives! Activities at the event include a free lunch for walkers and other fun activities.

The Edgefield County WalkAmerica will be held at the Edgefield Park, in Edgefield, and registration begins at 8:00 am with the actual walk beginning at 9:00 am. Please call 864-942-0171 or log on to www.walkamerica.com for more information or register on WalkAmerica Day.
