Local Observance for Confederate Memorial
Day, Sunday May 1 Edgefielddaily.com web posted April 25, 2005 Press Release The following is a Press Release of the Martin W Gary Camp, of the Sons of Confederate Veterans "Lest We Forget" "Lest We Forget" is the title of the local memorial service remembering our Confederate ancestors. The Martin W Gary Camp, the local chapter in Edgefield County, of the international organization, Sons of Confederate Veterans, is sponsoring this event. SUNDAY, MAY 1st at 3:00pm the Gary Camp will be remembering, specifically, Private Tillman Padgett and all of our Confederate forebearers. The site of the service is on Outzs Road, 2.1 miles from the intersection of it and Meeting Street Road(Hwy 430). Coming from downtown Edgefield, go approximately 7 miles on Hwy 430 and TURN RIGHT onto Outzs Road(green highway sign) and continue 2.1 miles, arriving at a marked location. This is the burial site of Private Padgett. Everyone is invited to attend, but try to get to the service beforehand to allow one time to gather at the site. Following this service there will be a reception at Oakley Park, Edgefield, the former home of Confederate General and leading "Redshirt", Martin W Gary. The Edgefield chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy is sponsoring the reception. Remember, these brave, honorable and principled men fought, were wounded and died for the cause of liberty. "Lest we forget", come and join us for this service.
