Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who “drive-in feature” next week in Edgefield
web
posted August 7, 2008
PSA - The Town of
Edgefield and the Edgefield
Community Development Association brings another fun-filled Downtown
Drive-in event to the Square in historic Edgefield on Friday, August
15th. Bring your family, your neighbors, and your friends and
gather around the Edgefield Square for the showing of the movie,
“Horton Hears a Who.” This adorable movie is based on the beloved book
first published in 1954, and is about a very imaginative elephant,
named Horton.
Horton hears a cry for help coming from just a tiny speck of dust that
is floating through the air. Because of his gigantic ears, Horton
initiates contact with the Mayor of Whoville, and becomes determined to
help this tiny civilization despite his friends in his community
thinking he has lost his mind! Each generation will be sure to
find the value of the life lessons demonstrated in this favorite story
of American family literature.
Activities for the young, and the young at heart, will begin at 7:30pm
on the Edgefield Square. There will be a dress-up as your
favorite “Dr. Seuss” character, a watermelon seed spitting contest,
gold fish cracker toss, and face painting.
Bring your family, your chairs, and your blanket and enjoy another fun
movie night under the stars. The movie will begin at
approximately 9:00pm with the Wachovia Bank Building again being the
movie backdrop. There will be free popcorn and snow cones again
courtesy of the SC National Guard Armory, HHC 122nd Engineer Battalion,
and sodas available for purchase through the Edgefield Community
Development Association with all proceeds going towards the Downtown
Drive-in movie fund.
Any donations received during this event will be greatly appreciated
and utilized to bring you another Downtown Drive-in event, possibly a
Christmas movie for the holiday season. Some of your favorite
merchants will be open with extended hours, including Still Magnolia’s,
Jane Bess Pottery, Park Row Market and be sure to stop in at
Paperwhites between the hours of 6-8pm when all toys will be on sale.
There will be plenty of parking available at the Discovery Center
parking lot, the Dialysis Center, Edgefield First Baptist, and along
the side streets of Edgefield. Shuttle service will be
provided by the Edgefield Police Department, and they will ensure that
the event remains a safe and friendly atmosphere for all to
enjoy. Please – no pets or unattended children. In case of
rain, the event will relocate to the old Edgefield Gym on Church Street
just down from the Edgefield First Baptist Church.
The Edgefield Community Development Association would like to pay
special thanks to Anderson and Anderson Attorney at Law for sponsoring
the August Downtown Drive-in event. We’d also like to thank
Pamela Moore of Paperwhites for coordinating the children’s activities,
Lauren Virgo and the National Wild Turkey Federation for supplying the
movie projection equipment, the SC National Guard for the use of the
popcorn and snow cone machines, Jane Bess of Jane Bess Pottery for her
marketing efforts, and all those in the community that have contributed
their time, effort, and ideas to make this event another memorable
evening for the Town of Edgefield.
Mayor Ken Durham “was thrilled with the community turnout and support
for the July Downtown Drive-in event, and looks forward to all of us
working together to continue to make Edgefield a great place to live,
shop, and visit.” Come join in on the fun, Friday, August 15th
for another fun community event.
