Clemson University offers Electronic Commerce Course
web
posted August 13, 2008
GREENWOOD – This fall, Clemson University
Cooperative Extension Service (CUCES) will offer an E-Commerce course
in the Greenwood area. With support from the Clemson Institute for
Economic and Community Development (CIECD), this course is relevant to
all who are wondering what eCommerce is about, and small businesses
that are thinking about developing an electronic commerce website.
Past participants have included retail, service, home based, farm and
alternative based businesses with fewer than 50 employees. The classes
are usually held in a computer lab, with mostly hands on exploration of
the Internet. This course will be in three sessions usually running
from about 6-9 PM. The cost is $195. For participants that have been
through the Small Business Development’s Center’s Fast Track Program,
the fee is normally reduced to $100.
According to the Census Bureau: "E-commerce (or electronic commerce) is
any business transaction whose price or essential terms were negotiated
over an online system such as an Internet, Extranet, Electronic Data
Interchange network, or electronic mail system." But electronic
commerce is more than selling product online; it's using online
resources and tools to do business better, more efficiently and
productively. It's about making and saving money. eCommerceSC helps
small businesses use e-commerce more effectively, encourages business
growth or start-up and helps businesses participate in the global
economy. Originally piloted by the University of Minnesota Extension
Service, the eCommerceSC curriculum is being used by Clemson University
to serve the business community in South Carolina. The training takes a
small business through 4 major segments: eExploring, ePlanning and
ePromoting, and eBizPlan, each designed to hone the specific eCommerce
skill sets of the internet conscious entrepreneur.
This Greenwood area program will commence on Tuesday, October 28th in a
computer lab within easy driving distance from Edgefield, Abbeville,
and McCormick. The location and exact times will be forwarded to
the participants. Some dates may change due to the schedules of the
instructors. The program is usually taught by CIECD officials:
Associate Professor and Ecommerce Specialist Dr. Dave Lamie and
Specialist Will Culler, Clemson University.
This program is offered to people of all ages, regardless of race,
color, gender, religion, national origin, disability, political
beliefs, sexual orientation, marital or family status.
Persons interested in the program should contact Ernie Church at echurch@clemson.edu. Or
1-803-637-3161 ext. 112.
