Discovery Center hosts Books, Band and Barbeque Event today

web posted September 18, 2008
EDGEFIELD – The Freshwater Coast Regional Discovery Center will host a Books, Band and Barbeque event showcasing author and renowned barbeque and grilling expert, Rick Browne today, September 18th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at 405 Main Street. The evening will be complete with live music and a meet and greet with the author. Barbeque plates will be available for purchase.

Rick Browne is creator, host and executive producer of public television’s Barbeque America, author of The Big Book of Barbeque Sides, co-author of The Barbeque America Cookbook and also spokesman for Cattlemen’s Barbeque Sauce, Coca Cola, and Bush’s Baked Beans. Browne will be at the Discovery Center to sign his newly released book The Best Barbeque on Earth. This book, which features a collection of recipes, techniques and stories from travels to 26 countries around the world, will be available for purchase.

There will be a live performance from Solid Ground Southern Conduct along with the tantalizing aroma and tastes of southern barbeque. Families should bring blankets and lawn chairs to relax and enjoy this fine southern tradition.

Through interpretive exhibits, historical information, a gift shop of local artists, and a rotating exhibit space, the Freshwater Coast Regional Discovery Center shares the heritage of Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood and McCormick Counties. The center is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information on this event and the center, please call (803) 637-1237.
