Free Volunteer Training Teaches Child Advocacy Skills
web
posted September 30, 2008
PSA - COUNTY – The Edgefield County
Volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) Program teaches every day people to
become positive, effective advocates for children living in foster
care. The GAL volunteers advocate for children who have been abused or
neglected and are now involved with the Family Court system. These
dedicated volunteers provide hope, strength and support to children in
desperate need of a caring adult in their lives.
Children entering the foster care system have their whole world turned
upside down. Many times they are moved from their homes, their friends,
their school, and sometimes even separated from their siblings.
Having a volunteer Guardian ad Litem assigned to them by a Family Court
Judge gives them comfort, hope, and a voice in their future.
Our 30 hour training program, starting October 1, 2008, will teach you
the skills you need to be a child advocate. You will learn about the
far reaching effects that child abuse and neglect can inflict on a
child, and what you can do to help a child recover from abuse and find
a safe, permanent home.
