Parade Time Changed
Edgefield National Guard Unit to be honored as Grand Marshall web posted November 29, 2005 EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield Community Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2005. Since fans will be traveling to see the Strom Thurmond High School football team’s appearance Saturday night in the state championship game, the parade will begin at 11:00 am instead of 4:30 pm as originally scheduled. “Hopefully, everyone can come out and enjoy the parade before heading to Columbia for the big game,” said Michael Medlock, parade chairman. In honor of their recent tours of duty, soldiers from the Headquarter Company of the 122nd Engineering Battalion of the South Carolina National Guard from Edgefield, SC, will serve as Grand Marshalls for the parade. The soldiers have recently been deployed to the Al Anbar province of Iraq, including serving in the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah. “We are extremely proud of these men and women who have served their country with honor and distinction. We are pleased to honor them in this small way,” said Bob McKie, Mayor of Edgefield. The parade will begin with a color guard and float from the National Guard unit. Entries from all over the county will entertain the crowd. Santa Claus will bring up the rear of the parade with candy for all of the children along the route. For
