Jimmy Shay Memorial Fishing Rodeo gearing up for May 8 event

web posted March 1, 2010
COUNTY – The Jimmy Shay Memorial Youth Fishing Rodeo will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Lick Fork Lake Recreation Area from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The rodeo theme is “Get Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs”.  Children 12 years and under will be allowed to fish with bait and tackle furnished. Lunch will be served at no cost to children and their families.

Lick Fork Lake is located just off Highway 230 (West Martintown Road) about ten miles north of Sportsman’s Corner. Once entering the Park just follow the signs. Children will recieve a free "Get Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs" T-shirt. So come out and enjoy great fishing, free prizes, and great food.

In addition Fire Trucks, EMS, the Sheriff's Bloodhound Team, and others will be there for the children. Of course, there will be the much anticipated drawing for free prizes and the bicycle give-away.

The event is organized by the Edgefield County Law Officer’s Association in memory of State Trooper Jimmy Shay. Some of the Fishing Rodeo’s major sponsors are the Merriwether Fire Department, U.S. Forrest Service, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, and EdgefieldDaily.com.

The event will be well supervised by public safety personnel from county and state agencies. The public is invited to attend and encouraged to have a lot of family fun. Safety issues will be strictly enforced.

To contribute to the Fishing Rodeo please call:
Michael Butts 803-637-4060
or Chris Aston 803-275-2488
Donations are accepted all year long.
