"Thankful Tree" expresses wishes of participants

By: Frances Proveaux
web posted December 2, 2009
RIDGE SPRING – It began with a HOME group from Cedar Creek church’s Banks Mill Campus wanting to do something for the guys at Recovery Works for Thanksgiving.  It turned into the first of what is hoped to be many One Table Celebrations for the small town of Ridge Spring, South Carolina.

When Marilyn Thomas, the wife of Flint Thomas and co-founder of Recovery Works at the Ponderosa in Ridge Spring was approached with the idea of doing something for the guys, the idea began to grow.  This year families and others were included because of time constraints, but Marilyn would like to work with the community next year to encourage more community participation.  The purpose of the one table is for no one to be alone on Thanksgiving and is being modeled like the one in Aiken.

Today’s event was sponsored for and with the help of Recovery Works at the Ponderosa, LLC.  They are a residential recovery facility for men who are recovering from alcohol and drug addiction. The program involves structured discipline and lifestyle, work, meetings and personal responsibility.  I have spent time with Flint and Marilyn and the guys.  They are all wonderful people.  They guys are working very hard to turn their lives around and very appreciative for the opportunities being afforded them at the Ponderosa.

Recovery Works is in need of two things: prayers and donations.  Both are very much appreciated and the donations are also tax deductible.  Please consider making a tax deductible donation to this very worthwhile organization.  You will receive a receipt for tax purposes.  Checks can be made out to Recovery Works and mailed to 2269 Ridge Spring Highway, Ridge Spring, SC  29129.
