Ward Store Target of Armed Robbery

web posted August 30, 2014

WARD Saluda County Sheriff's Deputies alerted Edgefield County Deputies and Johnston Police to be on the look out for an armed robber that had just fled an armed robbery at the Royal Food Store near the Saluda and Edgefield County line near Johnston. The robbery took place around 9:45 pm Friday and the robber was seen leaving the area in a dark colored Chevy Tahoe, possibly towards Johnston, at a "high rate of speed."

Details have been dripped out in the ongoing search and investigation during the night. The robbery suspect is a black male around 6' tall and was wearing a grey shirt with a long sleeve white shirt underneath. He used a black shirt tied around his head as a mask.

It is unknown if the robber made off with any money or property during the robbery or what type of weapon was used.

As of 12:30 am Saturday, deputies and investigators were still working areas around Johnston, including the Long Cane Road area.

Deputies and Johnston Police were already working a search for a black male that ran from a traffic stop by a Highway Patrolman, the man had a gun in his hand as he fled on foot.

Edgefield Daily will continue to follow the breaking story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
