Covar Recognized for 15 years Service web posted January 26, 2007 Below: Brad Covar and Sharon Keesely This year’s theme, “Leading Voices for South Carolina Public Schools”, recognizes school board members in the state’s 85 districts for their unified commitment to serving and advocating for quality public schools for all children. Local School Board members were honored at their January Meeting for the service that they give to the students and employees of the school district and the citizens of Edgefield County. Serving as Board members for Edgefield are Mrs. Sallie Cooks, Chairwoman, Mr. Scott Chitty, Vice-Chairman, Mr. James Bibbs, Secretary, Mr. Brad Covar, Mrs. Mary Alice Jackson, Mrs. Viola Jackson and Mr. Andy Livingston. A special presentation was made to Mr. Brad Covar who was recognized for his service of 15 years as a board member. He was presented a certificate and a lapel pin from the South Carolina School Boards Association. “South Carolinians benefit every day from the dedicated energies and countless hours devoted by a group of more than 600 men and women across the state. These public servants are elected by local voters or appointed to serve and receive little compensation for their tireless efforts. These men and women are the local school board members of South Carolina,” said Dr. Sharon W. Keesley, Superintendent. “Our local board members unselfishly contribute their time and talents toward the advancement of public education,” Dr. Keesley said. “They represent a continuing commitment to local citizen control and decision-making in education. Even though we are making a special effort during January to show appreciation to our school board members, we recognize their contributions reflect a year-round commitment on their part.” For
