Persistence pays off with trip to jail

web posted July 21, 2006

JOHNSTON – The old saying, if at first you do not succeed, try, try, and try again must have been on one Johnston woman’s mind when Johnston Police repeatedly were called to a home on Lanier Road Tuesday.

Johnston Police responded on the initial call in regard to a verbal dispute between two women and thought they settled the matter. After a while, they received another call back to the same home for the same dispute. Again, the officer thought the situation was defused and all parties left.

Later a third call came in regarding the same dispute. This time the homeowner of the Lanier Road home told the officer she wanted the other woman placed on trespass notice from her home. The woman was given a verbal and written notification of the trespass warning and informed that if she returned to the property she would be arrest. The woman left and the officer completed the call and left.

At 4:05 pm still another call came in about the woman being back at the Lanier Road home. When the officer arrived he saw Corretta L. Cheatham, 37, of Walker Street, on the property and informed her she was under arrest for trespassing after notice.

If at first you do not succeed in being able to be arrested, keep trying and you will be obliged.
