Lt. Governor’s Essay Winners Announced

JOHNSTON – The Edgefield County School District is proud to announce the 2007-2008 Lt. Governor’s Essay Winners. The county 5th grade winner is Mortrez Coleman of Douglas Elementary. The county 8th grade winner is Brandi Jackson of Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School. 
   
The Lt. Governor’s Writing project recognizes students with outstanding creative writing talents. County 5th and 8th grade students participate in the project. From each school, class winners are selected and from these winners a school winner is announced. The District winners are selected from the school winners.
   
The School Winners for the program this year are: Douglas Elementary – Montrez Coleman, Johnston Elementary – Royden Watkins, Merriwether Elementary – Gabe Gibson, and W. E. Parker Elementary – Sarah Alexander. At the Middle School level winners were: Brandi Jackson from JET Middle School and A’dreanna Truesdell from Merriwether Middle.
   
These students were recognized at the February 12 Board of Trustees “Spotlight” Program. Montrez and Brandi will also be recognized by Lt. Governor Bauer at an awards program in Columbia this spring.
