February Proclaimed Oral Health Month for School District web posted February 19, 2007 Pictured are the Health Tec II students answering questions from the kindergarten students Dr. Sharon W. Keesley participated in the February Dental Health Care recognition by signing a proclamation which read: Whereas, tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease among children, threatening a child’s overall health and well-being and Whereas, more than 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental related illness; and Whereas, The South Carolina Dental Association is an organization committed to ensuring the oral health of our children; and Whereas, The Edgefield County School District has provided strong and continuous support of oral health education for the children in our school district; and Whereas, attitudes and habits established at an dearly age are critical in maintaining good oral health throughout life; and Whereas, in recognition of the 2007 observance of National Children’s Dental Health Month, dentists throughout the country will be in the spotlight, talking about the importance of prevention as a means to combat dental disease; and Now Therefore, I, Dr. Sharon W. Keesley, Superintendent of The Edgefield County school District, do hereby proclaim, February, 2007 to be Oral Health Month and urge all parents and children to recognize the importance and commit to the goal of good oral health and access to oral health care.
