School Board to choose Superintendent tonight

web posted March 27, 2007

COUNTY – The Edgefield County School Board will make their selection for Superintendent of Schools for Edgefield County tonight at their regularly scheduled meeting. The meeting will be called to order at 6:30 pm at the Edgefield County Administration Building.

The position is left vacant by the resignation of long time superintendent Dr. Sharon Keesley. The “odds on” favorite for the position is Dr. Frank Roberson who took the place of Dr. David Mathis. Mathis took a position with the Aiken County School System which was considered an advancement. Dr. Roberson, who also came from a similar position in Aiken County, resumed Dr. Mathis’ position in Edgefield County.

Some say Dr. Roberson was offered the upcoming position in order to transfer to Edgefield County after Dr. Mathis learned that he would not be considered for the position when Dr. Keesley resigned. Their contention is that if the move by Dr. Mathis to Aiken County was an advancement, the move of Dr. Roberson from Aiken County to Edgefield County was a “step backwards” in position unless a predisposed offer was already sealed.

The vote tonight by the Edgefield County School Board members will be the proving ground of whether insiders to the school system are correct and the so-called “screening process” was merely “window dressing” for a decision made long ago.

EdgefieldDaily.com will announce the selection within minutes of the meeting ending Tuesday night.
