Reading Comprehension test questioned as politically biased

web posted March 29, 2007

COUNTY – Several Edgefield County residents contacted EdgefieldDaily.com concerning a “test” their children were being subjected to in the High School setting at Strom Thurmond. The “test” was described as a “propaganda essay on Democrats” by one parent and a description that cannot be published by another. “What does this have to do with ‘reading comprehension?’” another wrote. EdgefieldDaily.com began investigating and obtained a copy of the test presented to students.

The “test” clearly has a Democratic Party bias and yet was submitted to the students on the behalf of, “The School District of Edgefield County” © 2007.

The test gives a pro Democrat version of events of the war against Islamic terrorism and then asks students to reach a similar conclusion in questions opposing President George Bush. “No matter how you answered the questions you would be considered anti war”, one parent wrote. “I can see how this can be used to say ‘most high school students think the war is wrong’” a local mother told EdgefieldDaily.com.

The test was withdrawn after many students, and some Parents, objected. Who approved of the “test” and its implementation has not been revealed at this writing. Some have complained that the non-partisan school board members are using their positions to push a political agenda in the school system.

School officials were unable to be reached for comment at press time.

EdgefieldDaily.com will continue to follow this story and will have further updates as more information is obtained. A file of the test may be downloaded here. The file format has been set as an MSWord document. EdgefielodDaily.com is not responsible for altered versions of the file presented.
