Outstanding Essay Winners Honored In Columbia

COLUMBIA – The Edgefield County School District Fifth and Eighth Grade Lt. Governor’s Essay Winners were recognized at a ceremony in Columbia on April 23, 2007 by Lt. Governor Andre Bauer.  Shown left of Lt. Governor Bauer is Sally Mickelsen a student at Johnston Elementary who is the county fifth grade winner and right is Elizabeth Holmes, a student at JET Middle School who was the county eighth grade winner.

The honorees were presented with a plaque for their outstanding essay that won them the district honors. They also had their programs autographed by the Lt. Governor. Fifth and eighth grade winners from each public school district in the state were also recognized.

Following the ceremony, Miss Holmes and Miss Mickelsen were treated to lunch. Joining the two winners for the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Holmes, Mrs. Elaine Mickelsen, the parents; Mrs. Virginia Culbertson and Mrs. Nancy Holmes, from JET Middle School, Mrs. Bridget Clark and Mrs. Tyra Miller from Johnston Elementary, Mrs. Sandra Friar and Dr. Frank Roberson from the District.
