Locals Awarded Grants Through WSRC Mini Grant Program web posted April 24, 2007 COUNTY – The Washington Savannah River Company Team at SRS is pleased to announce its 2007 Excellence-In-Teaching Mini Grant winners. Educations from all Central Savannah River Area public elementary and middle schools are eligible to apply for grants in one of three categories: $500, $750 or $1,000. Since the program began in 1989, WSRC has awarded $776,300 to fund 1,464 projects by 1,637 educations in the CSRA. Johnston Elementary School was the recipient of $5,000 in grant awards. Winners from Johnston Elementary and the title of their grants were: Kay Campbell – Food For Thought, Kim Lorimer – Moonlighting, Tyra Miller – Fabulous Fridays, Elaine Mickelsen – Grow in the Know, Tammy Ouzts – Scientists Take a Closer Look: Animals from Around the World, Leisa Long – Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation on my Head!, Kippy Kelly – Who Ate Whom?, Angela Fallaw – Ladybugs, Butterflies and Frogs …Oh My, Christina Newsome – It All Makes “Cents”, and Deborah Henderson – Just the Facts. From Douglas Elementary, JoeAnn Boradwater received a $500.00 grant to implement Measuring is a Part of Life and Jenny Yonce received a $500.00 grant for her entry of Witnessing the Cycle of Life. Genna Cover, a teacher at W. E. Parker Elementary received a $500.00 grant for her project “Seeing the Light” and Dana Kaltz, also from W. E. Parker Elementary, was a $750.00 recipient for her project – Six Synchronized Systems. At Merriwether Middle School Debbie McCain was awarded $500.00 for her submitted grant entitled “Digging into History through Science” and Georgie Rohr, was a $1,000 grant winner for her entry “Don’t Let Gravity Weight You Down.” The Excellence-In-Teaching Mini Grants program is one of several initiatives coordinated through WSRC’s Education Outreach programs department. The grants are funded by WSRD’s Community Giving program, which supports such community initiatives as education, health, welfare, civic and social activities, and culture and the arts. For
